Pirates Gold

Pirates! Gold is a swashbuckling good time that was released for the personal computer’s Windows operating system in the nineties. It follows the initial release that came out several years previously, only it adds some very nice improvements to the game. Pirates! Gold was developed by Microprose. Sid Meiers’ name is associated with this game as strongly as it is the Civilization series, which should clue the user in on its longevity and worth.

Pirates! Gold for Windows is, quite simply, the Gold version converted for the Windows format. The game takes place between the middle sixteenth century and the late seventeenth century in the era known as the Age of Pirates. The user’s pirate will have a hometown, and the player will have to undertake a very rudimentary player creation screen. After making a new character, it is off to the high seas and all of the action a young pirate could ask for. There will be wenches to woo, tavern brawls, pillaging, and plunder. The first part of the action is most likely to begin in the tavern of the hometown where the pirate will be able to hire crew members and talk to people about possible marks that are sailing the seas.
The user will acquire a crew and a ship. The larger the crew is, the more powerful of a ship the pirate will be able to command. More hands equates to the ability to fire more guns. More guns fired means a more handy defeat of other ships and more wealth for the pirate. It also gives the user money to pay more crew, thus creating a great economical cycle…if you are a pirate. Upon taking over a ship, it can be added to the fleet, and it will require crew to run it, and so the cycle continues. There are many different classes of ship available, and each one will have its uses.
It is not all about beating up on other pirates. The pirate’s actions will make him an enemy of many states, and a hero to some. By carefully working the system and making sound diplomatic choices, the pirate may be able to raise in ranks and gain his own dukedom in recompense for mercenary acts or completing quests. Wealth comes with benefits, including women.
Overall, this is a nice upgrade for the Windows format. Pirates! has been a longtime favorite and has spawned some very cool remakes in the later years. This upgrade of the original is certainly a worthwhile play and users should not be a bit reserved about this download.
