Settlers 2 Gold Edition

Having long been a fan of the Settlers series after becoming hooked on the first game in 1993 for the Commodore Amiga, I can honestly say the game has lost none of its addictive fun. Perhaps best treated as an interactive screensaver due to it's slow pace, you will have no problem killing a few hours with this game.
The gameplay itself is very similar to the first game in the series though the graphics are improved and as such I would rate this sequel the best in the series.

Taking on a human opponent in a split screen match is as much fun now as it was back in 1996, although it can be a
Lengthy affair. I have been disappointed with many of the old games I have revisited as the complexity and depth of many modern games have spoilt the innocence simplicity of the past. Luckily though I found myself enjoying The Settlers II and would highly recommend you give this one a try, particularly if you are new to the series. If you are a Settlers 'noob' then The Settlers II is a real time strategy game of unbeatable charm. The aim of the game is to expand your territory by building a powerful army of cute soldiers to guard military buildings and attack the enemy. Achieving this end requires the harvest and processing of various resources found in the landscape including: Gold, Iron, Coal, Granite, and Wood, Meat, Grain and water. Only building
A strong economy will grant military success, a rewarding feature lacking in many modern games of this type. The maps are varied and can be both modified manually or randomly generated meaning you will never have exactly the same challenge. Used cleverly this can really help vary
The difficulty of the game by controlling resource availability and can be employed to great effect during play with another human and/or computer opponents.
The game has inspired many fans to create modifications, additions and tools some of which are still available on the internet if you look hard enough.
In conclusion The Settlers II is a time consuming but highly rewarding and I would recommend the game to any RTS genre fan. You won’t find cute classic charm and enduring fun like this in very many old games. Enjoy!
