Reviewer: Dos-Games-Online True love is unique in the genre of Dating Sim as there is more to it than getting the girl naked, although it may not seem like then when you are playing it. It requires a mix of luck skill and attention to detail. The girls all love different things and so you must choose to go after specific ones, although when you do the rewards are not to be missed. ;) However one thing I overlooked [hint] concentrate on one state solidly for a bit of time and you get visited by gods so [major hint] take a break for 5 days solid, you'll be rocking by the end.
The girls all have several different set events, some will be triggered every time you play, others [like the bit with the cat and the older woman] are seemingly random and so playing through different times gives different results.
The characters you meet vary massively from you [sexuality in question] best friend to his sister [relation not obvious but it doesn't stop her being hot.] From the schools vice student leader [or something like that, basically a sad, sad little man who worships...] to the student leader [who is arguably the hottest in the game. The scenes with her are brilliant]
The one down side of this game is the time it takes. And that’s not saying it’s a long slow trek. You will find hours disappearing as you play through this game, it’s not something for if you looking for a quick hentai scene, go to paradise heights for that. Look here for the involving story of a failing school student who basically "wants to do better". That is if by 'wants' you mean 'will', and by 'better' you mean 'every girl in sight'. The 'in sight' bit being important, various encounters [for example when the characters dad appears] break out of the mold claiming that the dad is 'too ugly for the player to see' which basically translates to they couldn't be bothered to draw them, which is a shame considering the quality of the rest of the characters, but if it was a choice between him and the girls I’m glad they chose the girls.
The hentai scenes are well drawn and worth the wait, they are also available in a gallery when you unlock them, meaning that if you like various scenes with one girl you won’t have to replay the whole game to get them again. Instead you just boot up the gallery. The gallery also tells you what proportion of the pictures you have, and so you can set yourself a goal for next time you play it through.
Reviewer: Dos-Games-Online True Love is an interactive bishoujo game that breaks the mold by going beyond the simple story branches seen in most Ren'ai games. In True Love, you play as a college student who is familiar with many different lovely bishoujo's to pick from, all of which, even the male side-character, you can end up with in end. A classic with nostalgic value that has built popularity in America allowing other Japanese ren'ai games to come into America.
Graphics 6:
It's an old windows game, a really old windows game, the graphics and cg's cannot possibly compare to newer games. The character models are all different however, and just very carefully make sure that they all have very distinguishable presentations to separate each and every one. A lot of variety, but not much quality
Gameplay (Compared to other bishoujo games): 8
True Love is still one of the most interactive renai games in the market, with its only competitors perhaps being Secret Wives Club and Little my maid. At the beginning of the day, you select exactly what it is that you want to do, and the game will mold itself around what you choose. It may seem random at first, but if you know the girl you are going for, strategically placing yourself at a certain place at a certain time is simple. When you meet a girl in game, the game play will fall victim to the typical "select one of two options" story branch system, that being its biggest downside.
Sound: 6
Remember how I said this was a very old windows game? The sound reflects on it, cheap, but appropriate midi soundtracks fit the game, but it isn’t the kind of music you would want to download later to listen on you ipod.
Character Designs: 9
The highlight of the characters in this game is the great variety seen in all of the girls. The stereotypes they follow range from extreme to subtle. As always, there is a girl who likes sports, a girl who is a victim to society, a ko'gal, a mature woman who puts it out easily, a teacher, a delicate, and a Lolita, but the producers do an excellent job of making sure that they are consistent in character, and they follow such stereotypes in a stunningly convincing manner.
Overall: 7
4 years ago, when this was the first bishoujo game I played, I would have given it 10 out of 10 for everything, but it gets a seven now because it has several hard-to-beat competitors out on the market right now. Stand alone, the game by itself, with every comparison aside, might get a higher grade, but that is not to say that the game inst excellent in its composure, which it is. I recommend this game if you want to see the foundation for current H games on the market, to see the peak of the old to gain appreciation for the new, much like how you should play final fantasy 3 for super Nintendo after you've played 7 for PSX. It’s a well rounded game that shines as a classic.
