Dammen is a nice game made in 1988. The intention is to defeat your enemy by getting his bricks. You can put your bricks somewhere else by using your arrow keys and the enter key. Althought the graphics are not that great at all, I like the game, it gets me and keeps me playing. This is game is translated from Dutch into English by Errol Jacoby.

I used to play this game when I actually had a DOS machine and there is nothing like the classics to pass the time away. I haven't played it very recently though because my computer is running Vista and up until now I didn't have an emulator to run any of the fantastic classics you can find on this site and others. I found the game to be in a good format, and an easy game play. The AI was good enough to keep you entertained, but not too hard so that you got discouraged and quit the game... and we all know how much work it used to take to command line over to other game. :-P There are some other cool things about this game that I would like to talk about to give you the fullest description possible of this classic. The pop up window that they give you to pick which direction you are moving is kind of cool, especially for those days. It had a cancel button and an x in the upper corner so you could decide against your move at the last minute and jump the correct piece. I admit my drag and drop of this century is a bit more practical, but in those days it was a great way to implement the graphical user interface. When you get a king instead of a 'k' on your piece you get a dot on your piece that on my version at least was yellow if my memory serves me correctly... which I thought was kind of weird color scheme, but it works. Finally, there is the good old save button that we can never forget about. On most modern games the second you leave the window your game is lost, but with that awesome save button you can always go back and play some other time just in class our boss sees you rocking the old DOS emulator when you should be doing a financial report for the meeting that afternoon. Oh, there is also a nifty little help window just in case you can't figure out the super easy controls that should be pretty intuitive for the general populous. There isn't much more to say about this classic game because part of its pull to download and enjoy is just the fact that is a good old fashioned simple game that everyone knows the rules of and enjoys. I would recommend this game to anyone that knows how to use a mouse and can type a few words into a terminal. Enjoy! I know I did!
