What we have here is quite an unusual puzzle game: water keeps flowing through pipes and your job is to fill all the boxes with water by rotating the boxes (each box has a different number of openings to let water in). The playing area keeps getting filled with water so you must act fast.

WaterPuter offers quite a simple and unique premise in the world of puzzle games.
Some may find it kinda weird and all, but it is interesting enough if you want to take a closer look at it.

I first found WaterPuter on arcade games CD a few years back and it makes for a good way to pass the time. The game is very similar to the old arcade game Pipe Dream. It didn’t take me long to figure out how to play (even without reading the instructions) thanks to the game being simple to understand and it’s basic game play. The game is geared towards players who enjoy puzzle games requiring quick problem solving skills. Players who are good at planning ahead will also do well with WaterPuter.
The object of the game is to fill all of the pipe pieces in the grid with water before the water level at the bottom reaches the main pipe at the top of the screen. Filled pipe pieces are indicated by a solid centre. You do this by rotating the outlets/inlets of each individual pipe piece so that their outlets/inlets link up from the top main pipe without any draining from your system. Additionally, the more water you have leaking directly from your system, the faster the water level will rise.
You can change the size of the selection box to 2x2, which then allows you to rotate pipe pieces within the grid. This is useful for when you end up with a pipe piece that has too many outlets/inlets for the position it is in. For example, a four-way pipe on the corner will just bleed water and never fill. As the water level rises, rows of pipes will drop off. As you progress through the game you will have to work with more rows and columns. The further through the game you go the more complicated the levels get in terms of the pipes you have to work with.
Overall, while there is not much to it, WaterPuter is a good time waster for those who are into arcade puzzle games. Anyone can pick it up and play for hours with minimal instruction. Some may consider this to be a negative attribute – it seems too simple and basic. I have never reached the end of the game, and it guarantees to never be the same play twice.
HINT: The best strategy I found is if you can not get the pipe pieces in the grid filled from the start, and then pick a row higher up the grid to form a line at. Set the pipe pieces up so that when the row below it drops off the grid will be filled, finishing the level.
