With all the modern racing games that are ultra-realistic and complicated, it's nice to know that there are some games out there that capture the joy of auto racing without all the frills and technical details. Racer is one of those old-style simple racing games, where all you have to do is move your car from side to side and avoid crashing into other cars or obstacles (grab gold blocks along the way for points). You're on "cruise control" the whole time. It is very similar to Atari 2600 Grand Prix in gameplay except you can't control your speed.
If you liked Atari 2600's Grand Prix, you should download this game. For those who never played Grand Prix for the Atari 2600, don't expect a serious racing game, just a simple test of your reflexes as you navigate your way down the track.

Racer was a great game! It's pretty simple and easy to play. The object of the game (which is probably obvious from the title) is to race. You have to avoid objects such as potholes and other cars, and also avoid running off the road. That may lead to a wreck and cause you to lose. For a 2d game it’s pretty entertaining.
I had a really good time playing it and I'm glad I downloaded it. I award it 8 out of 10. I recommend it for anyone who needs to kill some time or if you really like racing in classic games.
Anyways, the first level is pretty simple, which is to race to the finish line without crashing. The second level is a little more challenging, they throw in random potholes and you have to avoid them and of course get to the finish line. Third one is pretty much the same except they throw in a fallen tree towards the end, which is pretty easy to get past. Just keep racing and don't give up, eventually you'll end up at level 8 which is a beast of a level you have to race past potholes, fallen trees, dogs, cats, turtles, a flock of geese, a duck, and a old grandma on a stroller.
Overall, this game is great, and a great source of entertainment. I highly recommend it if you get hungry for some sweet 2d action.
