Prepare for yet another space war against a seemingly endless number of alien ships and structures! Xatax is yet another fine game in the space shooting tradition as your little ship fights against hordes of aliens. There are lots of power-ups, a cool variety of aliens to blow up, and much more!

Of course, as are many games of this kind, it can get fairly monotonous and repetitive since the whole point of the game is to shoot stuff and prevent your own spaceship from getting destroyed.

Download this game for some high-quality classic-style action!

It is likely safe to say that few gamers have ever heard of Pixel Painters, and fewer still have heard of the obscure little scrolling shooter created by them, Xatax. Pixel Painters both developed and published Xatax and released it for play on the personal computer somewhere in the middle nineties. It is a highly routine side-scrolling shooter, but still offers enough action to be entertaining.
Xatax features an futuristic theme and the user is portrayed as a tiny silver space ship. The setting sees the space world at peace. There had been no war or conflict for over two hundred years, and once evil rained down upon the world, the population was no longer prepared to deal with it. Xatax appeared to conquer the Earth, and the planet was defenseless. Xatax, a bio-mechanical megathon, left a swath of destruction behind it wherever it went, and was seemingly unstoppable. Then, an ancient war craft was located, and the people believed that it had the firepower capable of stopping the Xatax. You are its pilot, and the world’s last hope.
Xatax, as mentioned above, is a stereotypical side scrolling shooter. The little fighter is attacked by multiple waves of enemy aliens and will also have to navigate through towers of enemy structures that will fire various types of weaponry at it. To add variety, there are several different looks for the alien ships.
While there is a weak plot to the game, the overall point is just to kill and kill and make it as far as possible in the levels. There are over fifty levels, and while they are well-designed and colorful, they are a bit repetitive and get old after a while. The game is varied to some degree by the addition of powerups in each of the levels, most of which upgrade the ships weapons, but some will do other things. Often times, the powerups are located in positions that are somewhat hairy to attain, and the user will be tempted to become greedy and damage his ship (sometimes to death) in an effort to retrieve a desired weapons system.
Overall, Xatax really does not add anything new to the side scrolling gaming genre. It does not feature any whistles or bells, or superbly engaging music and sound effects. Fortunately, the scroll is smooth and the action is fast, making it a fun play despite its lack of novelty. It has several different difficulty settings, so it is customizable for any skilled user.
