The main point of this game is to move your boat to catch falling people on parachutes, otherwise they will get eaten by sharks. Very simple and repetitive indeed, a throwback to Atari-style gaming where gameplay was doing the same thing over and over again to get lots and lots of points.
Should be good for a 5-minute time killer, don't expect too much excitement, but nonetheless a well-made game.
Reviewer: a_dma_2 The game is fairly straight forward to play. It has enough levels to keep you occupied. The colours and styles are completely nostalgic and exactly what I was looking for in a game such as Parachute .
I am still more interested in older games that the newer ones so the fun is in the colour and styles more than the complexity of the more modern games.
People who enjoyed games like Alley Cat will like this game as much possible. However if you have ever played the game Bouncing Babies you will like this game for sure as this game is like Bouncing Babies and it is also easier than bouncing babies.
To explain this game in a few easy steps is:
1. there is a helicopter from which people drop.
2. as they drop their parachute opens.
3. they fall either to the left, middle or the right of the screen
4. if you catch them you get a single point.
5. if you don't catch them they die in the water.
6. if 3 die then you will loose the game
7. As you get better you go through faster and faster drops of parachutes
My Highest score was pretty ordinary at a mere four hundred and fifty but it's mainly because I am out of practice and I haven't played games like this for years. I have not tried to play this game on the new windows Vista as I don't want to be fussed trying to figure out what is happeing on these systems in terms of adjusting it to work with older DOS software. I know my version has worked well in the Windows XP version of Windows.
I first played Parachute from a CD-ROM I bought, called Ultimate DOS Collections II. This CD had a few hundred different old DOS games on it, along with other things like sound effects. We lost that CD many years ago, and I have been searching for it ever since. I have finally found a few good sites like this one to get these good old games from.
While it is fun and addictive, it is also a one of the more difficult platform games, making it an exciting and awesome challenge for players with a solid background in older retro style games. I have noticed that a lot of the new game consoles are revisiting these games as an option for people to buy instead of the new fangled games.
