Prepare for futuristic-style racing as the traditional cars and motorcycles have been replaced by machines surrounded by green vortex ball forcefields! Of course, since the vehicle is way different, trying to control it may take a while to get used to. Lots of speed, powerups, and challenging tracks make this a racing game to remember.
Before you play it, don't forget that this is extremely different from the usual NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula F1, Grand Prix, Outrun, etc. and even if you are an expert at those games, you should be a newbie or amateur at Scorcher when you play for the first time.
Worth a download as it delivers the thrills of racing extremely well: high speed, bumps, stunt leaps, jumping, and other stuff that might spike your adrenaline.
Reviewer: jennuinly_faux I haven't played the game since elementary school days but when I downloaded it again and compared it to the current racing games, even though it was more primitive they just don't make games like this anymore. I thought the controls were harder to maneuver but the futuristic cars and the swirling vortexes made it so much more interesting then the fancy sports cars that we play with in our games now.
The controls were very different from your normal driving games and it was weird going back to such a primative system of acceleration and turning - which I always had a problem with in contemporary driving games. The graphics ( during the time that this game was made) were pretty advanced in comparison to their heavily pixelated counter parts.
The soundtrack was really weird though. They played some kind of techno music which I guess could make sense but I never thought it fit in with the futuristis dark look they had going on with the rest of the game. It was still catchy.
All in all I would say that this game is a great game to bring back childhood memories and you can't find classic games like this anymore.
I haven't played the game since elementary school days but when I downloaded this again and compared it to current racing games it was also different because of the setting and the useage of the futeristic and fantasy combined. The setting in which the "cars" raced were racing against each other was on a gloomy moor or a dirt road at night so the vortex around the cars would stand out against the night sky.
The graphics of course are in synch with the graphics of the 1990's but I always thought it looked better by then becuase I had been so use to playing games from 1993 where the pixels were as large as my fingernail. The ony problem was the load time I always had on the game. The controls were easy and few to learn so re learning the game curve made the entire process easier then learning to play the games now a day where there are so many more options and other elements that you can tinker with.
I think that it's worth it for people who like driving games to try this game out just to see what began the fad or where the driving games originated from. I really liked it then but it's outdated now. Download Scorcher (scorcher.zip)
