This is yet another remake of the 80s arcade classic Centipede. However, this ain't no ordinary Centipede! Prepare for some fast hard-hitting Centipede action like few or no other Centipede games ever have had before. With the mouse only, move your shooter around and keep clicking and firing (left mouse button). Centix can give your mouse quite a workout!

The interface is slightly awkward, if you click the right mouse button, it automatically quits! Also, click the left mouse button at the introduction screen to start playing.

If you're a die-hard Centipede fan, download this game now for a different experience! If you're not much into Centipede, I suggest you get a more traditional Centipede clone instead (like Pedeicide and Megapede that can be found here on DOS Games Online).

Note: if you are running from pure DOS mode, you need EMS memory (i.e. have EMM386 loaded somewhere in CONFIG.SYS). Running from Windows should be fine except that it may be a little too fast.

Centix, much like the classic Galaga, is always a pleasure to play. Some games have the ability to entertain for generations and this is one of those games. It provides lots of fast paced action that can keep one from doing their work for hours.

Unlike Galaga, it is much more intense and suited for the more easily bored child of the 21st century. The levels get increasingly challenging as it seems near impossible to fight off the numerous amounts of enemy ships. It kind of reminds me of when I first played Halo. Halo was the first game to completely surround the player with numerous enemies at any and every angle while allowing the player to move freely in and out of combat. Though you cannot move away from the combat in this game, it is similar in the sense that the enemies surround you and are not confined to just being in a lame left to right movement with the occasional suicide bomber that might come flinging at you.

These enemy ships with keep you swerving and dodging to your little heart's content. I do not know about you, but the more times I have to dodge and move around, the more in the zone the game forces me to get into. And an avid gamer would agree that when you forget that you are playing the game, and when your fingers and the keyboard or game controller become one cohesive unit, you are, needless to say, having a fantastic gaming experience. Also, when a game is challenging enough to frustrate you at times, some might agree with me when I say, that is a good thing.

Though it can be frustrating, it keeps you coming back for more, and when you do get past that stage that was so irritating you were ready to destroy whatever machine you were using in a fit of temporary insanity, it is that much more rewarding. Now though those who are avid Galaga players might see this game as subpar, but it isn't. It is just older. The waves of enemies are still just as hard to shoot, and the gamer still has to pay close attention to learn their patterns if he wants to preserve the life of his ships and advance into the high score charts. There are still cool shots available, and there is still that frantic button mashing as you are trying to kill or be killed by the alien ships. No, Centix is just old, not dead. It is a great game with a classic arcade shooter feel that should entertain you.
