This is another game along the long lines (no pun intended) of Tetris games. The main diffrerence in Pentrex is that not all the blocks are 4 pieces (as it is in the original Tetris). Some might be 5, or 3, or maybe a different number. Compared to other Tetris games, the graphics are quite pleasing, yet simple.

For those who have never heard of Tetris before (where have you been all these years!?) the goal is to take falling blocks of various shapes and manuever them properly so that they form horizontal lines at the bottom.
When you get a line, the line disappears. If you go too long without getting any lines, the game area will keep filling up and if it fills up to the top, the game is over.

If you like Tetris, download this for some extra strategic thinking. If you never played Tetris before (may be some of you out there), you may want to start off with a more traditional version of Tetris.

Note: if you are running from pure DOS mode, you need EMS memory (i.e. have EMM386 loaded somewhere in CONFIG.SYS). Running from Windows should be fine.

When I was younger and at my grandfather's house I came to sit down next to him as he played his old Nintendo. "Grandpa, what are you doing?" "I'm playing Tetris." He then placed the control in my hand and taught me how to play. Now that I am much older, Pentrex could possibly be one of the best (if not better) interpretations of Tetris I have ever played.
I definitely suggest this game to anybody who is looking for something a little bit different from Tetris, because of the way the blocks are - they come in different numbers. This game is also especially good if you are trying to practice to play Tetris. Instead of being informed on the next shape and color you are only informed on the shape. Playing this has trained me on how to think quickly, because if I remember correctly, the Pentrex board is a tad smaller than the Tetris board, giving you less control over where everything lands. Although, I don't suggest this if you just Google Tetris and found this game instead. What you're looking for is the original classic, and I don't think that this game would feel the same. This is I find this game excellent also because it appeals to both genders, and this game finds itself somewhere in the neutral area between the two. Pentrex is a fun game to play if you are bored or stressed at home (or school or work) and are looking for something to take your mind away from whatever it is that's going on in your life, and I've found that block placing games can actually be quite meditative.
Pentrex is an excellent re-make of the classic game of Tetris. Try it.
