This is a nice simple rendition of the classic board game Tic-Tac-Toe (Noughts and Crosses is the British name for Tic-Tac-Toe). There are 3 modes, 2-player, player vs. computer, and computer vs. computer. Also there are 3 difficulty levels: easy, medium, and hard. The graphics are not too fancy, and the interface might be a little awkward at first. Experts might find this game way too easy, even on the Hard setting.
If you find other computer Tic-Tac-Toe games way too hard/impossible, or if you are a Tic-Tac-Toe newbie, download this version to get you started.
Reviewer: chfrancis So, a classic game that we all know well. Nothing groundbreaking here, but you can't help deny the simple beauty of playing a classic game such as this. Many advancements have been made on the classic game of tic-tac toe, indeed Nokia still ship a more complex version of the game on their handsets up to this day. It is however, a flawed game - once you master the particular set of rules and moves in the game, you will reach stalemate every time. A bit like if you played chess with two pieces on two squares. This makes it therefore boring after a while. which is a shame. But no fear! There are no incredible graphical enhancements in this game - indeed the simple vector based graphics are just that - simple. But the clean angular shapes and tasty use of bright and exciting colours makes for a very clean playfield on which to hone your skills.
It's always been a game that could be played on a piece of paper. But two people were required to perform the function of enabling the complex arrangement of naughts and crosses to be played out across the playfield. Luckily, on this version, a new partner has been formed from the mass of human inginuity and this player takes the form of a series of binary digits, diodes and bits of plastic, metal wires and other bits. Yep - you've guessed it, it's not robocop, but it's the computer. And not a bad brain it's got either - unless you know the algoritmic formation of moves and shapes that I mentioned earlier which allow you to stalemate every time, you can enjoy a fiendishly challenging game - one that will keep you on your toes and is much more classic than playing sudoku or eating sushi or playing Tony Hawk's pro skateboarding and suchlike.
The one change I would have liked to see would have been other shapes away from the classic naughts and crosses. Why not a starfish or a tin of spam as the two shapes? This would have allowed for fun themeing and potentially an adventure mode around a war between the scary starfish and tugid tins of spiky spam. This could have been both interesting, engaging, humorous and gripping. Alas, you can't have everything in a game, but I don't think that matters. If you just want a classic games of naughts and crosses, got ahead, knock yourself out. Download Noughts and Crosses (noughts.zip)
