Theme Hospital is another great game by Bullfrog. I once had a full version of it on CD, but never knew it was a dosgame. The graphics are very good as you can see on the screenshot. Much better than you might expect from a dosgame.
The intention is to build your own hospital. There is a building, but it's empty. You have to make rooms for doctors and nurses to cure the folks, toilets and a room for your staff to relax.
But, there's a small budget. You can earn some money by curing people, but it takes a while before they feel better.
On a dos machine this game will run good, but it may run a bit slow when you use dosbox. This game is really worth the download of 12 Mb, because it's just another awesome Bullfrog game. Why don't you try it.
Reviewer: dunchrispy When I was a young teenager, I discovered this game and I had a blast playing it. Building your own hospital with different rooms to help out patients with the oddest diseases was an interesting challenge for me. I can’t help but remember that the diseases you had to cure such as bloated head, heaped piles and others had you waiting to see which disease you would have to cure next. Every patient that walked through the front door would have you interested to make sure that they would be cured.
You have to hire all of your staff but also keep them happy. The biggest challenge was hiring staff that was willing to work even if they were tired. The staff room is often full of tired doctors, nurses and receptionists. Building a good staff room that will rest up your staff quickly is also a challenge with the budget that you have. There are also different levels of doctors such as a psychiatrist and surgeon that need to be paid more money to be kept on your staff list.
In this game you really have to decide what your priorities will be because your budget is so small that you cannot build everything you would like to at first. Once you have cured a lot of patients in a very small hospital, you can think about getting more diagnosis, surgery and treatment rooms to help serve your patients better. Patients pay a certain amount for being cured from their odd disease.
You also have to keep your patients happy while they are waiting to be treated. While they are waiting, chairs and drink machines help them have more patience. Bathrooms also need to be built to satisfy your patients’ needs. It was exciting and also very funny when your research department discovered new diseases with hilarious names. But then you would also have to build a new treatment room to treat the disease you just discovered.
I thought the graphics were quite good in this game for the time that it was made. The colors are also well done and the screen is easy to navigate around.
Running your own hospital is truly a challenge in this exciting game. It can truly make you think about what it would be like in real life. It is not as easy as it might look but also great fun to learn as you go along.
