Imagine a game that is kind of like Tetris and Columns, but is way different from either of them! Well, here's Torus, a simple game that should provide quite a helping of falling block entertainment.

Toruses (they look like donuts) fall down from the top of the screen into containers, your job is to use your peg to arrange the toruses so that 3 of the same color are in a horizontal row.
Don't let the toruses overfill a container or it's game over.

If you are a puzzle game addict like myself, then you might find this game to be a refreshing fix. I felt the game played a bit like Klax. Anyways, here's the breakdown.

Graphics: 3/5
For 1995, I feel the graphics in this game are sub-par. In 1995, we had games like Ultimate Doom and Myst. This game looks like it could have been on the NES. Now, I did think the colors were bright and vibrant, and I like how the background had a colorful rainbow pattern of circles changing and fading.

Sound: 0/5
Even running through VDMS, there was no sound or music. I don't know if there is no sound or if my settings are just wrong, so I won't judge the lack of sound and music against the game.

Gameplay: 3/5
I'll admit, it took me a while to get the hang of it. You have to take "Toruses" (I think they look like donuts) which fall into the top of three chambers out through the bottom and inject them back in to line up 3 of a color across. Even on Beginner, I found the game to be rather challenging. After playing a bit, I did get better at it, but still couldn't keep a game going for more than a few minutes.

Replay ability: 4/5
As a puzzle game, it has a decent amount of replay ability. I didn't find a 2 player mode, but you could play with another person and challenge each other's score. And there are also a number of difficulty modes ranging from Beginner to Expert. I found the game to be challenging on Beginner, but I did get better at the game the more I played it.

Overall: 3/5
This game is a decent distraction, but it feels like more work could have been put into it. While it is a bit different than other puzzle games, I feel it's too similar to games like Klax to be a unique experience. The graphics are a bit of a turn-off to me. The gameplay is really simple, yet as it speeds up, it can become rather difficult. The game is a decent DOS puzzle game, but doesn't really stand a chance against puzzle games on other platforms. Tetris Attack came out the same year, and I consider that game to be the best puzzle game of all time. In short, the game is simply overshadowed by more mainstream puzzle games. However, if you get a chance to play it, I'd recommend giving this game a shot.
