This is yet another clone of the classic arcade game Centipede. The object is to keep your gun turret from being destroyed as long as possible. To help accomplish this, it helps to shoot the insects, mushrooms, and the Crawly-Pede, a long insect that resembles a caterpillar. When you completely kill the Crawly-Pede, you go to the next level and another Crawly-Pede comes to try to get you.

PLBM Games specializes in classic games, and this game is another shining example of their nostalgic work.
Download this game if you like old arcade games.

Rip-offs of games generally come across as bad things. Bubsy 3D and Sonic Shuffle are the two that come to my mind and two me these games sucked. However, with Crawly-Pede, I have mixed reviews. Yes, it is a clone of the old school arcade classic Centipede, but does that make it a bad game? Well, was Streets of Rage a bad game? No, and in fact in ways it was even superior to Final Fight, the game that the franchise was built to rival. The same applies here.
If you’ve never heard of Centipede, then as well as recommending you to go and find a place to play it online, I’ll give you the general gist of the game. Wikipedia describes the player’s controlled object as a “somewhat humanoid head” which has a laser and must fend off the advancing centipede whilst the latter weaves its way towards the bottom of the screen (where the player is standing) in and out of mushrooms. As well as being strangely addictive, Centipede was also one of the first games to incorporate the use of many lavender and pastel colors, giving the game a more feminine feel. As such, women tended to be more attracted to Centipede and because of this the game as actually a huge hit. The original was designed for use with a trackball, but any input method, be it a joystick or a keypad, somewhat does the original arcade classic justice.
Crawly-Pede sticks to this formula, which in a way is risky in and of itself. However, it pays off because Crawly-Pede, whilst still not quite having the original feel and flare that Centipede had, still falls into the genre of “peculiar yet still strangely addicting”. As such, Crawly-Pede is not a game to be overlooked if anything. I can’t tell you how much time me and my little brother invested into these games a while ago, and these games are still a blast to play. On top of everything, it is clear that rip-offs do still have a place in the hearts of the hardcore gamers.
In addition, whilst Crawly-Pede is not one of the best old school arcade games I have ever played, there is no denying that if anything, Crawly-Pede is worth the title of being a rip-off of Centipede. And that is why, in my opinion, I enjoy the rip-off classic game of Crawly-Pede so much. Crawly-Pede, you rock.
