Well, this is a driving game where you drive and shoot cars to survive. You have a specific distance to go and you have 2 weapons: missiles and a machine gun. Not much else to it than that. Very old CGA graphics and PC Speaker sound may be a little irritating. Also, the controls may be slightly awkward. For many it may not be enjoyable because of the counter-intuitive layout.
Download this game only if you're a nostalgia buff and want to play games over 10 years old.

Feeling the eight bit energy of racing cars?
Wanna catch some speed on your computer?
Well, then "Car War" is right for you! I like to think of the game as an eight bit slimmed down version of Need For Speed.
If you are bored, get the game! If you want a serious racing game with the thrills of actual driving, don't get it. Seriously.
Car War reminds me a bit of Grand Theft Auto with it's shooting and driving fast and all those other thrills.
If you're a fan of Grand Theft Auto (as you can see I'm blatantly not) then I would recommend this game with the warning that this game is not even close to the thrills of GTA.
Oh, don't get me wrong. It's cute. It's eight bit. It reminds you of the good ol' days. And like the good ol' days, the game comes and goes as fads and memories.
The fun part about Car War is the motivation to continue to try and beat your high score.
Come on! You can do it! Beat that score like Billy Mitchell at Donkey Kong!
But then once you beat the score, you lose all energy and wonder you ever even started playing. But if you're a hardcore eight bitter like I know you are (because hey, you are actually thinking about getting the game) you continue and try and beat that high score too!
As you can see, this game is a cute and quaint time waster to say the least.
But let's talk about other things...
The "Speed" and "Miles To Go" info. at the bottom of the screen are actually useful. The sheer simplicity of that box in the lower part of the screen make you just wanna go faster and faster until you get to your destination in record time!
(Note, it is better to do that in the game than in real life).
Car War also has the common avatars next to the info. to show how many lives you have left.
How convenient!
But let's face it, you expect that little gauge to be on every game.
Overall, Car Wars is reminiscent of the games back from the nineteen nineties. Wow! Two decades ago!
Hold on...it was made two decades ago.
But let's get back to the review.
Car Wars has no bells and whistles, but just think of it as the first Grand Theft Auto.
It won't provide the same thrills, but the time you spend on this game will be worth...ten minutes at most.
But just replay and replay and you'll want to continue to beat your score.
Overall, this game is a real download!
