OK, for those who never played Othello before (or its Windows 3.x equivalent Reversi), it goes like this: There are two players, one has black circles and the other has white circles. You're job is to have the most circles of your own color when the game is over. To get more circles, hop over the opponent's circles. It's easy to learn once you get started.
This version of Othello has decent graphics, layout, and options. It is a bit easier than Hromis, but can still provide quite a challenge.
If you like Othello, this game is worth a try.
Reviewer: zaf1998 As soon as I saw this game it just looked like it needed a write up. And who better to write it up than a huge fan of the original board game.
This version of the game is one of my favorites specifically because of the simple controls, the colorful layout and the overall game play. Both the computer and the board games are masterpieces and just a good way to kill time. I myself have spent hours upon hours just trying to beat the computer at this game.
A bit about the concept. It is a very simple concept in which you (the player) try to get one of your either black or white playing pieces on both sides of a row of your opponent’s pieces. Game play does get tricky however when you consider in that you have to claim some pieces every turn and you often get frustrated when you have a almost completely full row of pieces and the computer just steals it out from under you.
Graphics are simple with just a green board with a graph on it and black and white circles as playing pieces but it is fun nonetheless. Being that this is an arcade game I have literally nothing to on that matter. Design is also simple but it has a sort of authentic feel to it that makes you really just want to keep playing it. Any old time gamers would know what I mean. And it is defiantly a worthwhile download. It is a well presented game in which the designers played it safe by using two dimensional sprites instead of three dimensional sprites. Although you probably have this on some device that just fits in your pocket like the “Iphone” or “Ipad” this is just authentic is game play presentation dynamics design. People have said that Othello is a strategy game that takes “only a minute to learn, but a lifetime time to master.” I can definitely agree with this in the sense that I have been playing this game since I was eight and have only won about ten times. Another reason that I would recommend downloading this game is because the normal board game is going for about ten to fifteen dollars whereas this is completely free.
One final not is that this game you can play alone while you need two people to play the board game. This is a 4.5 out of 5 or a 9 out of 10. Download this game. Download Swell Othello (swello.zip)
