This is one of many Tetris clones, it is not much different from other Tetris games, maneuver falling blocks, try to get lines. This is a mediocre Tetris clone, its main advantages are that it is freeware and it is a small download.

If you like Tetris, go on and download this game.

Nyet, obviously a Tetris clone, was developed by David Howorth at 1988. So, what's so different about his clone? Well, not a heck too much!

The gameplay is very obviously the same, but in case you don't know, you have blocks that you would have to place correctly so you can create one row full of blocks to make them disappear. Each row you cleared will add a line, and every 10 lines will get you to the next level. Okay, so the game uses the standard rule for the original Tetris? That's good. BUT! When you first start the game, you can select what level you would like to start. Awesome! I'm alright that Nyet followed the rules for a standard game, but this is what makes this game different from the original. Thankfully, this game does show you (by option) what's the next piece is, since most clones often fail to do that. Again, this is a standard for Tetris games.

I'll give credit for having to include a high scores table because I often like to brag my totally "unbeatable" scores!!!

The graphics are actually ASCII, but at least it's colored! I won't judge too hard on the "graphics" but I thought it could be done better because it really feels plain and boring. Maybe have more patterns or something, but thank goodness the blocks are colored differently!

The controls was what I DON'T like about this game. I was hoping for the controls to use the directional keys (left, right, up and down), but instead, it uses only the letters on the keyboard. The document for the game said that it supports the numeric keys, but that was a LIE. I tried it and it DID NOT WORK, at least not for me, so you will have to use the appropriate letter keys to control the movement of your blocks.

There are SOME sounds in the game coming from the PC speaker, mainly for clearing lines. As long it isn't annoying, it's alright.

Overall, this is just your ordinary "Tetris" clone with not much variation, and I'm NOT saying this is a bad game. Nyet is basically a Tetris game that tests you for how many rows you can get and that's it. I was really looking for variations and the only variation I can do is set the starting level and that's it. I'll give Nyet credit from using any part of the word "Tetris" as a title since that was most commonly used in MANY clones in many ridiculous ways that I dare not to mention. At least the name is original.

So, should you try this? One benefit is that the file size is short to about 30Kb. For those with very limited disk spaces who are craving for a "Tetris" game, you might want to try this. After all, it is pretty much the classic game in a smaller file, and it does have only one feature of variation.
