In my opinion, Raptor: Call of the Shadows is one of the best games of its kind. There are some other games like this game, such as Bomber and Island Hopper. But this game is the best.
The game is topview and you're a pilot in your airplane. You will see other planes coming from the top of your screen and they will attack you. You have to press the CTRL-key to defend yourself with your armor.
When you shoot a plane it will crash and you will get money for it, which you can use to buy cool upgrades for your plane. Sometimes the plane that has crashed leaves something behind, like a weapon. You can pick this weapon up and you can use it to defend yourself.
Like I said, this game is really my favourite in this category. The graphics are nice, the sounds are nice and the gameplay too. What do you want more? Raptor has a nice menu in style of a hangar and you can set up more accounts if your little brother likes to play this game too. Really, if you like action games, you should download this game. You won't regret.
Reviewer: Lengthy1 When I was growing up in the 90’s, there were three things I loved above all else: The Animaniacs, “Aladdin,” and Raptor. Raptor: Call of the Shadows is a throwback to old arcade games like Xevious and is very similar to Tyrian and Stargunner. The goal is to fly your jet through waves of enemies over various settings, from cities to jungles to Mars (in the third set of missions entitled ‘Outer Regions’). While it may seem you are heavily outgunned as well as outnumbered, every time you destroy a building or enemy aircraft you are awarded money, which can be spent in the hangar to turn your jet into a fighting machine that could make the Death Star blush: machine gun? Check. Nukes? Check. Twin laser cannons? Check. Death ray (with satisfying sound effect)? Of course! The enemies, of course, vary as well, from patrol boats to quick fighters similar to the alien ships in “Independence Day” and the huge, ominous bosses at the end of every level.
You may be saying to yourself, “That all sounds good, but what about the game itself- graphics, music, etc?” Don’t worry- while the game is quite old, it still holds up nicely. The explosions are my personal favorite- every enemy and building has a small, satisfying explosion. For example, when you finally take down the boss, it will get small explosions dancing along it, then finally explodes in a nice yellow cloud. As the explosion fades away, your fighter screams off to the hangar.
The music while in the hangar is great, but the music played during some of the levels gets annoying very quickly. It just becomes noise; I have to play some music to deal with it (if I turn the sound off, can’t hear the bullets shredding the enemy fighters)
The levels are only a few minutes long, but as you start working your way through Tango Sector and Outer Regions, this works to your advantage- since you have to start the mission over once you die, you’re not playing through thirty minutes to get to a boss, just to die and do it over again. It has four difficulty levels- Training Mode, Rookie, Veteran, and Elite; as you work your way through the harder difficulties, new enemies start showing. For example, while playing Veteran, I fought a submarine and a patrol boat in the first level- enemies you don’t see until much later on Rookie. This keeps it fun and challenging for all skill levels; I’ve still yet to beat Elite. So please, treat yourself to one of the gems of the 90’s. You won’t regret it.
