Xargon is a nice platform game developed by Epic Megagames. It is very similar to Jill of the Jungle, but in the place of the women Jill, there's a man. You'll have to lead him trough the levels, but take care of the monsters and animals who will try to kill you all the time on you way to the exit of the level.
The graphics of the game are really good for a game made in 1993 and the gameplay is very simple.
The story is really good aswell, but it is very long too so playing this game will take you of your homework for a while ;)
Reviewer: Dos-Games-Online While the spacey sound of Xargon would lead the discerning gamer to believe that he was about to download a cool, futuristic space shooter, the player had best back up and think about it unless he is willing to settle for a medieval role playing game. Instead of representing a distant planet in a far off galaxy, Xargon is actually an evil wizard with hateful intentions. The game was both published and released by Epic Mega Games, and was released in the early nineties.
Of all things, the user begins by exploring the jungles of Madagascar. While on the grand adventure in the jungles, the user finds a teleportation tunnel and uses it. The archaeologist Malvineous Havership is the resident expert on the ancient and possibly mythical Blue Builder Society, and he is studying some evidence of their existence when he locates the portals. They take him to the world of the Blue Builders and is recognized as a hero, despite his rather geeky appearance. Here he learns of Xargon and his hateful, evil minions and is charged with ridding the land of his reign.
The game is practically a Jill of the Jungle clone. It seems to have qualities of an adventure game, a side scrolling platform, and a little bit of role playing. Malvineous will have to find his way, and fight his way, through various levels on the map…defending himself from the baddies along the way. Naturally, the way is going to be blocked with a variety of obstacles. He will have to find levers and switches that may release doors in areas that are not immediately obvious. Of course, the same switches may close those doors. Walls can be moved with secret switches. Malvineous will have to locate a variety of keys, color coded to match their respective doors. Fortunately, Malvineous will not be without assistance. There are all sorts of items, which basically amount to power up items, hidden around the mazes of each level. There are springs that will help him to leap up to taller platforms and he can even gain the ability to become a bumble bee for a short amount of time. This is a great tool for exploring some of the tricky areas, but it leaves Malvineous basically defenseless.
While it is not Jill of the Jungle, Xargon is still an interesting game with enough similarities to make it entertaining to Jill fans and enough differences to still be fresh. It is satisfying and recommended for download.
