I think you should at least have heard of this game, because it is very well-known and this action game is pretty cool aswell. There are two teams in a small battlefield and the teams have to kill each member of the other team untill the whole team is killed.

There are two ways to play this game: against your computer or against a multiplayer.
The best way to play this game is against a multiplayer, but it doesn't makes much difference. You are one team and you have to walk, jump and shoot with all the members of your team. You can choose your weapon out of a lot of weapons. After you did that, just put the weapon in a position you will think it will hit your enemy and shoot. That sounds really simple, but there is wind which will lead your bullet of it's target.

I remember playing this on my Playstation back in the day. Much like Grand Theft Auto it shows how great gameplay can overcome basic graphics. It starts off with its classy little military theme tune much like something out of an old war film and rolling up the title screen. It had some very cool customization options for every single one of the teams allowing you to switch them between human and CPU controlled (with varying difficulty options for each team, so if you weren't very good at it you could make it so your opponents couldn't hit the broad side of a bus with a homing missile). This game was designed to be amusing and completely unserious in its presentation with its daft voice sample for the worms, do damage to an opponent and hear the helium pitched retort of 'I'm going to get you' or accidentally (or intentionally) hit a team mate and hear the cry of 'traitor'.
Even with this comical presentation there lies underneath a well designed and well thought out strategic shooter. The gameplay is turn based, each team has a set period of time in which to move their worm and make their attack. This time limit calls for player to be able to think on their feet as the ever landscape which as the match progresses becomes scarred with the effects weaponry and the various tools and gadgets at the worms disposal, mean strategies must constantly be rethought.
The weaponry is wide and varied, ranging from the expected rockets, grenades and machine guns to the more outlandish banana bombs and exploding sheep. As expected the more devastating the effect of the weapon the more skill is needed to use them, for example the rockets require you to judge the trajectory and power of your shot and then compensate for the direction and strength of the wind. There are also more short range attacks such as the dragon ball and fire punch (an homage to SFII) which while note being as useful damage wise as the more explosive weapons, can potentially be the most devastating if your foe ends up landing on a mine cluster or in the sea which surrounds the levels. There is also the last ditch move each worm can employ, the kamikaze. In which your worm make the ultimate sacrifice for the good of the team and launch himself at the enemy, damaging all he comes in contact with and exploding at the end of his final flight.
As well as the weapons there are several tools at the worms disposal, such as the ninja rope and teleporter which assist your worm in maneuvering around the levels. There are also the girders which can be employed as platforms to scale or as makeshift cover from enemy fire. All these elements add a new level of strategy the game, sure you can teleport to that high up platform out of the enemies way but one good shot could send you falling to your potential doom.
This is a classic game that has a great formula that will never get old as the many sequels that have followed proved. So only one question remains, are you a man, or worm?
