Red Baron is a 3d flight simulation. It is a great game to play on a low mhz machine.
Graphics
Well the graphics are great for the year it was made(1990),the planes are good looking, but the landscape is a little bit crappy, the airfield looks like a few tents on a corn field with the german or allied sign ot the top. Overall it is good, some planes are really good lokking(sopwith camel,etc...)
Graphics 3/5
Gameplay
Gameplay is very good you can play it for hours and you wont be bored, many options, like in the campain you can engage in the dog figths with famous pilots but you can avoid it(it is usually harder then the normal dogfigths).
Many planes too,28. So with the single missions:Zeppelin Hunt,Dogfight, Patrol the front, etc.
Gameplay 5/5
Sound
I cant hear any sounds or music from my speakers!so i don't know for others, but i think it is very simple.
Sound 0/5
Multyplaying
None but it would be fun to play on the net, ya have net play in Baron 3d,but you need a joystick to play. In Red Baron ya don't need it,couse ya can use the keyboard.
Multyplaying 0/5
Overall Great game exept me can't hear sound. Many hours of fun.I promise that! ;-)
Overall 5/5
Reviewer: Dos-Games-Online Dynamix developed the Red Baron video game, which was released by renowned gaming geniuses Sierra Entertainment. It was released in the early nineties and saw action on several platforms, including the Amiga and even the more modern Xbox. It is primarily a single player game with multi player capabilities via Internet connections. It is a flight simulation game that plays from the first person perspective and offers a decent historically accurate attempt at World War 1 aerial combat. It has reached the top ten list of the best video games of all time, making it an obvious choice for fans of flight simulations.
In the Red Baron, the user has a choice between twenty eight different World War 1 aircraft from both the Allied and German sides. There are a very limited number of French aircraft, as well. Some of the craft the user will have to choose from include the Sopwith Camel, the SPAD XIII, and the Fokker Dr I Triplane. The player can engage in a single mission for a quick and painless play, or can enter into a career mode and play as a pilot for the German Air Service or the RFC of Britain. Depending on the faction from which the user chooses to play, the user will wither be flying with the Red Baron in the Jasta 11 squadron or else he will encounter the Red Baron as an enemy to be defeated.
Although the Red Baron does feature some reasonably realistic flight physics, it was mostly created to entertain. The game does try to implement at least one unique flight characteristic of each of the individual planes. For example, the Albatross’s upper wings will shear at high negative G Loads. There are other issues that the pilots will have to cope with that are true to life. Guns will jam, there will be loads of flak from enemy guns, and engines can become damaged leading to performance issues of even crashes, it is also possible for the pilot to be injured in a dogfight and bleed to death in his cockpit if he does not get to help in time.
The Red Baron is a nice simulation game and the awards that it has won should be more of a testament to its value than anything. Sure, sometimes the professionals have it way off in their reviews and awarding, but to make the top ten list of the best games EVER is an accomplishment that cannot be overlooked when choosing a well-balanced flight simulation game.
