Quake can be seen as the sequel to Doom. The intention of both games are the same: walk around and shoot!

The game has excellent 3D graphics which make the game very nice to play even if you're not a big fan of shooting games. The sounds are very good too, although they might be a bit violent sometimes.

It all started for me with castle Wildenstein and Duke Nukem. RPGs strategy, FPS these are my vices. Along came doom and I thought it couldn’t get much better, but the guys at ID software are a talented bunch and came up with yet another game that would be the envy of the gaming world. Although a little dated in today’s world the graphics were hot at the time and are still enjoyable today. A new totally 3d world was created to play in and blow up, not the limited 3d world of doom but an immersive 360 degree world with enemies sneaking in from above and below.
The sound could scare the crop out of any timid player so be ready. The controls are easy to master, I used mouse and a few key stokes to easily get around the game. For those who played previous ID fps games, this one will feel familiar right out of the box and not pose any learning curve. The puzzles are fairly easy to solve and the secrets a little harder to find (the levels will go fast unless you commit to finding them all which is a must for maximum entertainment value).As you progress you will find more powerful weapons to fight even more powerful monsters but the old standby is the shotgun, weapons, armor and health are the games treasures as you explore this wonderful dungeon and search for a way out.
A good soundcard is a must to appreciate the full effect of this game. I love to go monster hunting at night with lights out and full surround sound on (right creepy man), when you can hear before you see them. Each level has a boss which requires a little strategy (move shoot) but none are impossible just save before entering and try different things. For those of you who are a little feint of heart the console can get you in god mode and make you invincible.
This was a great game for its time and still is a classic, but most of all this game can be enjoyed by those of you who are still using older machines want to enjoy some FPS gaming. I highly recommend downloading it immediately.

Quake is a very fun but challenging game. I get lost very easily in quake their are too many paths to go through in quake.

Saying that Quake is too much like Doom is like saying that Windows XP is too much like Windows 98.

Both Quake and Doom were written by iD Software. Quake is not a sequel to Doom, but rather another storyline in the same vein.

A true 3D engine, the birth of the modding community, and of course, rocket jumping. If it were not for Quake, you�d probably all still be playing Tetris.

Here are some of the reasons I still consider Quake I to be, after nearly 10 years to the day, the most interesting game around:
Historically, the first real 3D fps, which is something others here have emphasized. Go back and play the original Hexen, for example and the difference is astronomical. The atmosphere both visuals and acoustics. The surreal mix of hypermodern and medieval themes, particularly in the arrayof monsters. The right balance and effects of the different weapons. The power of the console. People always knock SP, but (again at the time) the level progressions and increasing challenges were interesing. The incredibly user-friendly level editing options that the original quake series inspired. In a word: no other game felt this real and unreal at the same time. And if you compare to nearly any non-game software (office stuff etc.) from 1996, Q1 has held up pretty good!

I gotta say that Doom is a much better game than this one. This gets kind of boring (for me at least).

But the Quake-engine is just one of those things that made the world a better place to live.

This game is very fun to play i rate it full though i can see how alot of people thought it was too much like doom.
Blood Duke Nukem and stuff are doom clones to so this has a place.
I still own the origanel CD as we speak.

I�ve played this game when I was an amateur player, and continue to play it! This game is totally the best! So are the newer versions (2, 3 and 4)

Quakes� control methods and playability were unprecidented at the time, and the atmosphere worthy of many future nostalgia trips. Although I didn�t really like Quake 2 or 3, Quake1 is a true classic and I still make single player maps for it ;)

quake 1 2 and 3 are definatley kick ass games i will never quite playing. i like doom the best it has the best map lay out. quake also has some very great qualiteys. i think quake controles are alot better than doom mainley because you can jump. plus quake makes for a better muliplayer experience. doom has that great scare efect that i love in a survival horror. but in the end i enjoy both games and i own quake 1 2 3 and doom 1 2 3. id software has 6 great games that i salute them for. even if you quake haters dont admit it you know you like it.
